一般財団法人アフリカ野球・ソフト振興機構（J-ABS：ジェイエイブス/東京都新宿区、代表理事:友成晋也）は、12月11日から14日まで、「タンザニア甲子園大会」（正式には「セカンダリースクール全国野球・ソフトボール大会」）をタンザニア野球・ソフトボール連盟との共催で開催し、男子野球10校（南スーダン含む）、女子ソフトボール5校、計250人が参加しました。
さらに、10回目となる記念 大会のため、南スーダンチームの参加枠を特別に設け、J-ABSがクラウドファンディングで集めた資金で15人の選手団を招待しました。
なぜ、南スーダンか。J-ABSの友成代表理事がJICA南スーダン事務所に勤務していた2018年から2年間、休日に子どもたちに野球を教えていったという経緯があります。南スーダンは2011年に独立後、2度の大規模な紛争で最大400万人が難民、避難民となり、今回出場した選手13人(平均年齢18歳)のうち、3人も難民キャンプに収容された経験を持ちます。
開会式で、以下のJ-ABSエグゼクティブ・ドリームパートナー・松井秀喜氏のメッセージが紹介されました。

タンザニア甲子園大会に参加している野球選手、ソフトボール選手のみなさん、こんにちは！ニューヨークから松井秀喜です。第10回大会の開催おめでとうございます。そして南スーダンチームのみなさん、初めての大会参加、おめでとうございます。
日本の甲子園大会は高校3年間のうち5回出場するチャンスがあり、ぼくは素晴らしい指導者と仲間に恵まれ、4回出場することができました。16歳で初めてバッターボックスに立った時は足が震えて止まりませんでした。ワールドシリーズでもそこまで緊張したことはありません。
試合が始まったら、みなさんも緊張するかもしれません。これまで練習してきた自分を信じ、仲間を信じて思い切り、楽しくプレーして下さい。 きっと素晴らしい体験になり、忘れられない思い出ができるはずです。
女子ソフトボールチームも来年宇津木カップに参加するため日本を訪問すると聞きました。野球もソフトボールも、ベースボーラーシップの精神で、規律、尊重、正義を発揮して勝利に向けて頑張ってください。
Hello to all the baseball and softball players participating in the Tanzania Koshien Tournament! This is Hideki Matsui from New York. Congratulations on the 10th edition of the tournament. And congratulations to the South Sudan team for participating in the tournament for the first time.
I had the chance to participate in the Koshien Tournament in Japan five times during my three years of high school, and I was blessed with great mentors and friends, so I was able to participate four times. When I stood in the batter's box for the first time at the age of 16, my legs were shaking and I couldn't stop. I have never been that nervous, even in the World Series.
When the game starts, you might become nervous too. Believe in yourself and your fellow players, who you have been practicing with, and play with all your might, and have fun. It will be a great experience, and you will have unforgettable memories.
I also heard that the women's softball team will visit Japan next year to participate in the "Utsugi Cup" in Takasaki City. In the spirit of Baseballership and Softballership, please work hard towards victory and demonstrate "discipline, respect and justice".
