J-ABS Representative and Director Shinya Tomonari appointed as head coach of the Nigerian national team!

On June 9th, Shinya Tomonari, representative and director of J-ABS, was appointed manager of the Nigerian baseball team aiming to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.


Tomonari has maintained ties with Nigeria since his time as the Ghana national team coach from 1997 to 1999, and this appointment as coach was made possible by a relationship of trust that has lasted for approximately 30 years.


At the press conference,

"I want to create the most respected team in Africa. The potential for growth is limitless."

He spoke with great conviction about his aspirations.


Furthermore, during the inauguration ceremony, Chairman Uche presented the All Japan Baseball Association with a glove made from Nigerian leather, crafted entirely in Nigeria. It was a special gift imbued with his hopes for the development of Nigerian baseball.


Furthermore, Chairman Uche said to Coach Tomonari,

"I hope they can create a team that can one day beat Japan."

I had high expectations.


Developing baseball in Nigeria, Africa's largest country in terms of population and economy, represents a significant challenge that will contribute to the development of baseball throughout Africa.
